So what do women want? What do men want? We all think that we have the answers and something in life always catches us off guard.
I watched My Best Friend’s Girl, and I must say I really enjoyed it. If you can get past the vulgarity and intense sexual scenes of the movie, it has a pretty good message.
Anyway, here is a brief recap of the movie.
Dustin, an amiable guy, is in love with Alexis, a coworker. When she tells him she just wants to be friends, he hires his roommate Tank, a fast-talking, amoral scoundrel who has a side business: men whose women have dumped them hire Tank to take their ex-girlfriends out on the date from Hell, to drive the women back into their old boyfriends’ arms. He takes out Alexis who, against her better judgment, decides she needs some randy fun, so Tank is in a quandary: take Alexis up on her offer, or stay true to his friend. More complications ensue as the wedding of Alexis’ sister approaches. Tank seeks advice from his father, Dustin pursues Alexis, and questions of self-worth need answers. I just watched the Notorious film and I have to say, it’s about what I thought it would be, an “alright” movie. The reason I say “alright”, is because the film does not tell us anything we didn’t already know about Christopher Wallace’s life. There was no new insight on anything. The movie was very safe.
The character of Biggy Smalls was not very believable. It may have happened exactly the way the film depicted it happening, but like I said before, it seemed a bit safe. It’s almost as if the film makers did not want to ruin his image or tarnish his name. He is known as one of the best rappers to have done it; him being a jerk to woman will not change how people feel about his rapping. Put it in the movie. Make it real. Give us the real.
The actors were ok. The veteran actors and actresses were great. I actually thought the portrayal of Sean Combs was pretty believable. I also liked the Lil Kim character, even though she seems to disagree. To be honest, I would have rather followed her story. The movie made her character flesh; made her real.
Overall, I’d have to say, in my opinion, that the movie gets a C grade. There was nothing special, besides the story itself, to the movie. I encourage you to go see for yourself and you be the judge. This is just what I think.
Summary of Movie:
NOTORIOUS is the story of Christopher Wallace. Through raw talent and sheer determination, Wallace transforms himself from Brooklyn street hustler (once selling crack to pregnant women) to one of the greatest rappers of all time; THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G. Follow his meteoric rise to fame and his refusal to succumb to expectations - redefining our notion of “The American Dream.” Written by Fox Searchlight Pictures

When my wife asked me to watch Slumdog Millionaire, I barely paid attention to the conversation. I think Sports Center was on or something. You know how you are listening, but not listening; scanning the conversation for key words that might spark your interest. Nothing. Not one spark. Days past, and she brings the movie up again, telling me how it’s being nominated and winning all kinds of awards. I had been spending a lot of time doing school work, regular work and writing blogs, so I decided to take a break from it all and watch Slumdog Millionaire with my wife.
Ok, when I say “if you haven’t seen this yet, go see it”, I mean that. This movie was incredible.
Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) a slum dog (term given to the poor children) from the streets of Mumbai, has landed an appearance on India’s version of the hit TV game show WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE? Jamal, who has no formal education, exceeds expectations on the show, and the producers alert the police after they become distrustful of his technique. The youthful contestant is subsequently arrested and is interrogated at the hands of a nameless police inspector. During the interrogation, Jamal, through flashbacks, explains how each question that was asked on the show related to some point in his life. He told a tale of the struggles he went through as a child and a youth and the things he had to endure to be with the love of his life. I don’t want to tell you much about the movie, because I want you to experience it and love it for yourself. The ending is worth seeing over and over again.
If you don’t listen to anything else I say, please go see this movie. You will not be disappointed. Trust me. This movie is not a chick flick, but a moving experience that all can hold on to.
