2012: Global Destruction or Y2K Scare?
by: L Jones

The End of the World; the Mayans say it will occur on December 21, 2012. Is this the true date of the end times or just another Y2K scare? The one big difference is that on Y2K, we knew at 12:01 that morning that the state of the world was ok. But on December 21, we won’t really know until 11:59:59 p.m. if this is the end or not. No matter what your religion is, I’ll bet that you’ll be become more anxious as the day draws closer, and relieved if and when it passes.
So, what will you do on December 20? I bet many people will make New Year’s resolutions to get closer to their God in 2012; but on December 20th, that will be a day of prayers and repenting. If I am still alive at that time, I’m sure I’ll be a bit anxious. I’ll probably be close to family on that day; reflecting on the past and appreciating the present; wondering about the future. This will also be a day of partying and celebrations, I’m sure; relieved that the human existence has finally run its course and that we will finally be put out of our misery.
What will you think about? I’m sure I’ll be thinking about what’s next. Is there life after death? If there isn’t, then it doesn’t really matter, but if there is, there will be a lot of surprised souls, even the believers.
What will you do on December 22, 2012? Hell that might just become the new “New Year”. I can see the ball dropping at Times Square, more partying, increased chaos and finally relief. It’s the perfect party day; December 22 falls on a Saturday.
Well, I am not going anywhere with this. The interest comes because of a class project that I am working on and I just started thinking, you know? What do you think?
Prophecy: Some people believe that this prophecy is mistaken as the last Mayan cycle of 5,125 years did not bring about world-wide annihilation. Humans existed prior to 3,000 BC. However, the 5,125 year cycle is component of a larger cycle consisting of roughly 26,000 years. This longer cycle ends on December 21, 2012 as well so perhaps it is this cycle that brings about destruction? Another possibility is that each cycle marks an era of immense change or human improvement, not destruction.
I hope each cycle marks new human improvement.
