Talk to the Hand - I’m Not Listening
By: L Jones
Why do we chose not to listen? I mean, it seems like we don’t listen to or care about anything, unless it directly effects our individual lives. We would rather fail on our own than succeed together.
We (the government) didn’t listen to the cries for help of the US citizens in New Orleans after Katrina or the screams for help during this current recession.
We (our kids) don’t listen when our parents tell us how dangerous the internet can be and don’t talk to strangers applies just as much in the digital world as it does in the physical world.
We (the people) don’t listen to reason with respect to racism, prejudices and hatred towards our fellow man.
We (the leader) don’t listen to our followers, at least not until there is an issue that puts our perceived power in jeopardy.
We (the students) don’t listen to our teachers, but instead find all the reasons to justify our own inadequacies by thinking, I can’t learn because the teacher doesn’t like me.
We (the religious leaders) don’t listen to the state of the world. All religions believe that they’re religion is the only religion that matters and tend to shun the others. This ultimatum style teaching does not promote a blissful and perfect eternal life, but instead a life of hell on Earth.
We (society) don’t want to listen to creative ways to better or correct society’s problems, but would rather complain about them using creative arguements and fallicies.
I could go on and on, but you get the point. What a pessimist, you must be thinking. On the contrary. I am an optimist. I believe in us, be we don’t believe in each other. We choose not to listen to each other, to put up the hand. By not listening and believing in each other, we fail. Many succeed, but we all fail. If ever you listened to something, hear what I am saying now. Let’s start listening. Let’s start succeeding.
