I Choose Change - The Future of America

By: L Jones

The future of the United States to me is hopeful. I believe the citizens of this great country, after being beaten down to submission in pursuit of foolish and greed based ideals, are finally prepared to pursue a new and more prosperous direction. With the election of Barack Obama as the President of the United States, I believe the people have spoken in one clear voice, abandoning their individual socialization in hopes of a national rejuvenation and revitalization.

The country is down on one knee, but the fight is not over. But instead of fighting to further increase the bulging pockets of already wealthy legalized criminals, we must now fight simply to stand back up as a nation.

Being an optimist, I’d like to believe that the United States has been taught valuable lessons. I believe the next presidential administration will make crucial decisions based off of lessons learned, accurate and informed intelligence, and wisdom.  Historically, this country has been able to withstand the effects of poor choices. I don’t see why we can’t continue to learn from, apply to, and grow from wisdom.

Being a pessimist, I understand that the country is still plagued by each individual’s socialization. The melting pot that we call America has cooled. Enhancing one’s belief system is difficult.  To some, it will be easier to cling to ignorance, than to subscribe to lessons in wisdom. How many hateful words will be spoken; how many lives lost in the name of ignorance disguised as freedom. The future, in many instances is a mirror of the past and for this I am concerned.

As an American, I understand the current and future challenges we face. I also recognize the difficulties that change brings. But unlike some, I choose to subscribe to those lessons in wisdom. I choose to loosen the choke hold of ignorance, allowing the oxygen to flow freely, so as to keep an open mind. I choose to fight intelligently for a just cause with my eyes wide open, instead of blinding battling for an uninformed belief.

As an American, I choose freedom. As an American, I choose hope. As an American, I CHOOSE CHANGE.
