Why does THINKING hurt?

Published by stealth2000 under Uncategorized Edit This

During a recent college course I was taking, the teacher, who actually was a nun, proposed the questions; why does it hurt to think? Can you name times in your life that you really had to think things through before making a decision?

Here was my response to that question:

“When you truly sit down and think about something that truly matters, I mean really think about it, your mind takes you in countless directions. You think from your experiences, actual, perceived or witnessed how your decision will impact you. Think long enough and you begin to think of its impact on others. A silly example is shopping. I’ll go shopping and will typically make impulse purchases. If I do not buy the item right away, I will think of justifications for the purchase, eliminating the possibility of impulsion in my decision making process. Do I really need this? Is this what I really want? What will my wife think about me spending this money? Do I have to hide this item when I walk through the door? Will this cause an argument? Does it cost too much? Will I ever use it? HEADACHE. I put it down, because it requires me to answer too many questions and the majority of them are based in deceit.”

Shopping is a minor example that I chose, because I really THINK about the purchase.  If we applied this type of thinking towards the major decision making opportunities we face from day-to-day, just imagine how that one headache will help minimize future headaches.

What do you think? I propose the same questions to you. You don’t have to respond if you don’t want to, but THINK about it.
